Chris Smith on Knicks Controversy, NBA Pressure & Converting to Judaism in Israel

Chris Smith’s journey goes far beyond basketball.

From growing up in New Jersey and playing under elite coaches, to competing at Louisville and reaching the NBA with the New York Knicks, Chris faced pressure, injuries, and constant comparisons as the brother of J.R. Smith.

But his story didn’t stop there.

During his overseas career, Chris found something deeper while playing in Israel — a connection that led him to convert to Orthodox Judaism, embrace a new identity, and completely redefine what success means in his life.

This is a conversation about basketball, identity, faith, and finding purpose beyond the game.
